Christian Parsons.




Buenos Aires, 1980.

Interaction designer, programmer and researcher. He works as a developer of ludic interfaces and digital
artifacts, tangible and natural interaction devices, video games, computer graphics and live visuals. His
activity is framed within the arts, design and technology fields, R&D and interaction design teaching in the
university.
 
Degree on Audiovisual Design, Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism (FADU), University of Buenos Aires (UBA).
 

Technical skills:

Preferred languages: C++, Actionscript 3, Java.

Frameworks and libraries:
C++: Openframeworks, OpenGL.
AS3: Papervision 3D, Box2D physics, Flare Data Visualization Library, Flixel.
Java: Processing, jMonkey 3D game engine, physics integration with ODEJava and jBullet.

Working experience:

• 2010-2011. 'Cámara Lúcida'. Software development project. Cámara Lúcida is an open-source software toolkit to make digital devices based on real-time projection mapping with Kinect. It's made with C++ and based on Openframeworks, OpenCV, RGBDemo, Libfreenect and OpenNI. It received funding for development by the patronage of the Buenos Aires City Government with Itaú Bank; Metropolitan fund of the Buenos Aires City Government.

• 2007-2011. QB9 Game programming and development. Design and implementation of videogames for both desktop as well as web platforms in Actionscript 3. Within this company he has worked for clients like Disney, AOL and VH1.

• 2011. R&D Project 'Generative Art in Multimedia'. Support researcher for the project, directed by Carmelo Saitta. National Institute of Arts, Multimedia Department (IUNA).

• 2006-2011. Live visuals for opera scenery. Commissioned by Juventus Lyrica Opera Association: Il Trovatore, Giuseppe Verdi (2011); La Cenerentola, Gioachino Rossini (2010); The Magic Flute, W.A. Mozart (2006).

• 2008-2011. Interaction design teaching in the Media Arts Lecture/Workshop of Ing. Emiliano Causa, National Institute of Arts (IUNA), Buenos Aires, Argentina.

• 2009. Interactivos workshop at Arteleku (San Sebastian, Spain) and MediaLab Prado (Madrid, Spain). Grant for research and development of real-time projection mapping techniques.

• 2002. Interactive application 'Borges en el jardín de senderos que se bifurcan'. Design and software development in Flash/Actionscript. Commissioned by the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). Exhibitions: 28th Book Fair of Buenos Aires; Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires (MAMBA), Limbo Art and New Technology Contest.

• 2002. Multimedia Installation commissioned by Lier & Tonconogy architecture studio, for its presentation at the IX Architecture Biennial of Buenos Aires, National Museum of Fine Arts.


Artwork:

• 2011. 'Afluentes'. Interactive installation, made with Cámara Lúcida. Afluentes is a toy that consists of a circular sandbox where people can build their own landscapes. There's a water flow that goes through the tracks created by players, turning the installation into a construction toy to make watercourses.

• 2010. 'Mientras Caminan'. Interactive installation, multitouch surface. Exhibitions: VAD'11 Girona, Spain; Itaú Cultural Foundation, Buenos Aires; Castagnino Museum, Rosario, Argentina; MediaLab of the Spanish Cultural Center in Buenos Aires; Recoleta Cultural Center, Buenos Aires.

• 2009. 'Birds of paper'. Live visuals, 3D visualization of music. A simulation of autonomous agents in the form of a flock of birds is controlled by a performer in an session of improvisation with 12 cellos. Independent production with 'Arre' ensamble, conducted by Claudio Peña.

• 2008. 'Follows the sight for an instant as it moves away and drifts'. Interactive installation. Exhibition: Onedotzero Buenos Aires Festival at Recoleta Cultural Center.

• 2007. 'Cloud Chamber'. Interactive Light Sculpture. 1st Prize Digital Paradigm Art and Technology contest by Macstation Argentina.

• 2004-2005. 'Suspension and Precipitation; Cartographies'. Urban sound installation. Made as Artist in residence in CheLA (Centro Latinoamericano Hipermediatico Experimental), with the support of the Program on Digital Cultures, University of California (UCLA).
